I am a Maine native who grew up in Brunswick. Living in the country, I loved being outdoors as much as possible. My mother said when I was a kid I preferred to be outdoors to any other activity. I went to Maine schools and received my BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maine in 1971. My wife, Katherine H Totten and I have 4 children all grown up and on their own. I worked for 29 years at BIW in Navy Ship design and engineering management In 1995 I was able to take BIW’s early retirement offer and do full time what I had only been able to pursue on a part time bases in the past. I already had my guide’s license and went to work as a guide immediately upon leaving BIW. There is no pressure and I love guiding. It’s a great second career.
